New Chapter for Field House Care Home as Family Operator Curaa Homes Takes the Helm

Harpenden’s boutique care home welcomes fresh investment in community life, resident wellbeing, and modern care technology

Field House Care Home

Harpenden, Hertfordshire — Field House Care Home has entered a new era following its acquisition by Curaa Group, a family-run care operator with homes across Hertfordshire, Essex, and Buckinghamshire.

“Field House is exactly the kind of home we love — small, personal, and woven into its community,” said Haris Khan. “We’re not a corporate chain. We’re a family business, and we want Field House to feel like an extension of the Harpenden community, not a facility on its fringes.”

A Boutique Home with a Personal Touch

In an industry increasingly dominated by large-scale operators, Field House stands apart. It is deliberately small — a home where every resident is known by name, where staff notice when someone’s mood shifts or their appetite changes. Curaa intends to preserve and strengthen that intimacy. The team-to-resident ratio will remain high, and continuity of care — seeing the same familiar faces each day — is a central promise to families.

New Community Initiatives

One of the first changes residents and families will notice is a new programme of activities designed to keep Field House connected to Harpenden’s thriving high street and community life.

The Field House Book Club launches this spring, offering residents a weekly gathering to read and discuss titles together. The club is open to local residents too — Curaa sees it as a way to bring the wider Harpenden community into the home, bridging generations and combating the isolation that too often accompanies later life.

Days in Town is a new initiative enabling regular accompanied outings into Harpenden for residents who are able. Whether it’s a coffee on the high street, a visit to a local garden centre, or simply a stroll through Rothamsted Park, the programme is about maintaining the rhythms of ordinary life. “Moving into a care home shouldn’t mean leaving your town behind,” said Khan.

Modern Care, Thoughtfully Applied

Curaa is also investing in care technology at Field House. The home will benefit from the group’s existing digital care planning systems, which give staff instant access to each resident’s care records, preferences, and medical history at the point of care.

Sensor-based monitoring will be introduced to support residents overnight, reducing the need for intrusive room checks while ensuring any changes in movement patterns or wellbeing are flagged immediately to the care team. It is the kind of discreet, intelligent technology that supports dignity without replacing the human touch.

Investing in People

Clare Batty, the new Manager at Field House, is a living example of Curaa’s commitment to growing its own talent. She joined the group ten years ago as a carer and has worked her way up through senior carer and deputy manager roles to take charge of her own home.

“When I started at Curaa I had no idea I’d end up managing a home,” said Clare. “The support and training I’ve had over the past decade gave me the confidence to step up. I want to offer the same opportunities to every member of the Field House team — if you’re willing to learn, there’s a clear path here.”

For Khan, Clare’s journey reflects a deliberate strategy. “We don’t recruit managers from outside if we can help it. We grow them. Clare knows our values, she knows our residents, and she knows what good care looks like because she’s delivered it herself for a decade. That’s special and hard to replicate.”
